The Madhya Pradesh Nurses Registration Council was established in 1956 and was formerly known as the Mahakaushal Nurses Registration Council, which served the regions of present-day Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh until 2005. Subsequently, on 18 May 2012, the State Government officially renamed it the Madhya Pradesh Nurses Registration Council, Bhopal. The Council presently functions under the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Nurses Registration Council Act, 1973. Between 1956 and 1980, only 56 nursing institutions were operational in the state, most of which were government nursing schools, colleges, and ANM training Centres. Over the years, the number of nursing institutions has grown rapidly, and currently more than 450 nursing schools and colleges are functioning under the Council.
