DR.B.R.AMBEDKAR INSTITUTE OF NURSING is a Bangalore Private College. Ambedkar Institute of Nursing has been established in the year 1989-90 by Ananda Social and Education Trust. Now the name of the institution has been changed to DR. B. R. Ambedkar Institute Of Nursing (established in the year 1981 ). The college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, Karnataka State Nursing Council, and the Government of Karnataka. The separate building of the nursing school and college has hostel facilities and is attached to Dr. Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for clinical and teaching purposes. The hospital which has 750 beds with specialty clinics, ICU, Blood Bank, and RNTCP, Provides training and learning facilities to nursing students.

Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) conducts entrance exams like KCET for merit-based admissions in Government / University / Private Aided / Private Un-Aided Professional Educational Institutions in the State of Karnataka to professional courses such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, BNYS, B.Sc. Nursing, Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc. & A.H.), and various Farm Science programs such as B.Sc. (Hons) in Agriculture, Sericulture, Horticulture, Forestry, and Community Science, as well as B.Tech in Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology, and Dairy Technology. KEA also oversees admissions for B.F.Sc (Fisheries), B.Sc. (Hons) Agri-Business Management, B.Pharma, Pharma-D, and Lateral Entry to 2nd-year B.Pharma.

Important Note: Non-Karnataka candidates are required to appear for the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by KEA to be eligible for B.Sc. Nursing admissions in Karnataka. However, they are not eligible for government quota seats and will be considered under private or management quotas.

Eligibility criteria for B.sc Nursing

candidates must have passed the 12th standard (10+2) or II PUC with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as individual subjects. They must secure a minimum aggregate of 45% in PCB subjects. However, candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC, ST, or OBC categories are eligible with a reduced requirement of 40% in PCB.

Minimum age 17 years (as of December 31st of the admission year).

Non-Karnataka candidates are not eligible for reservation benefits and cannot apply for government quota seats in the B.Sc. Nursing course through KEA.

GNM Nursing (3 years)

Eligibility Criteria for GNM Nursing (3 years)

Educational Qualification

  • Must have passed 10+2 (PUC II) from a recognized board.
  • Science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) is preferred but candidates from Arts and Commerce backgrounds may also apply in some institutions.
  • Minimum 40-45% aggregate marks (varies by institution).
  • For SC/ST/OBC candidates, relaxation in minimum marks may be available as per government norms.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 17 years
  • Maximum age: 35 years

Nationality & Domicile
The candidate must be an Indian citizen, and some institutions, especially for government quota seats, may require proof of Karnataka domicile.

M.Sc. Nursing (2 years)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • B.Sc Nursing (Basic) / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Minimum 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST).
  • Degree must be from RGUHS Karnataka or an equivalent recognized university.
  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Candidates should not exceed 45 years on the last date of application.

SC, ST, Category - I & PH candidates RS.800/-

Step 4: Print the submitted form. Attend KEA document verification with original documents.

Step 5: Appear for the KEA Entrance Exam. Ranks assigned based on merit.

Step 6: Register for online counselling & select colleges. Seats allotted based on rank & preference. Report to the allotted college for admission.

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (2 years)

Online registration is mandatory to participate in the counseling process for Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing admission. Candidates must also complete document verification to proceed with option entry and seat allotment. However, registration and application alone do not guarantee eligibility; admission is subject to government rules and regulations, which may change over time.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have a GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery) diploma from a recognized institution. Should be a registered nurse with the Karnataka Nursing Council. Must have passed PUC (Arts/Science/Commerce) or equivalent.

How to Apply for Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing

  1. Online Registration: Visit KEA website, select Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing & B.Sc. Allied Health Science (Lateral Entry) - 2024, and complete the application. You will receive an Application ID and Password via SMS and email.
  2. Upload Documents: Submit a passport-size photo, signature, and left-hand thumb impression in JPG/JPEG format.
  3. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through the prescribed online method.
  4. Print Application: Take a printout of the completed application (A4 size) and present it during document verification.
