Directorate of Technical Education, Goa will conduct counseling for Nursing admission in Goa

The Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Goa, has prepared this prospectus for admissions to the First Year of Professional Degree courses offered across the State. This document provides detailed information regarding the Common Entrance Test and the admission procedures applicable to Government, Government-aided, and unaided colleges in Goa that offer Bachelor's Degree programs in the fields of Architecture, Dentistry, Engineering, Medicine (Allopathy, Homoeopathy, Ayurveda), Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Nursing, and Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences. Additionally, the Directorate is authorized to oversee the admission process for certain other categories of seats, for which separate prospectuses are issued.

All candidates desirous of seeking admissions to Professional Degree courses in MBBS, BDS,BHMS(Homeopathy),BAMS(Ayurveda), Allied Health Sciences, B.V.Sc.&A.H., Nursing and BNYS in the colleges within the State of Goa during the academic session 2024-2025, must appear and have a valid score in NEET UG-2024, and should fulfil other eligibility criteria for admission as specified in this prospectus. Merit list for these courses shall be based only on NEETUG-2024SCORES/RANK

The Application Form for admission is also included in the Common Prospectus. These forms shall be accepted at the Directorate of Technical Education, Porvorim, Goa, and other notified locations, as per schedule to be notified. Applicants seeking admissions to JEE-(MAIN) based courses(Engineering), and NEET based courses (MBBS, BDSBHMS(Homeopathy) and BAMS(Ayurveda), Allied Health Sciences, B.V.Sc.&A.H., Nursing and BNYS), as well as Pharmacy and B.Arch., are required to submit single application Form

B.Sc Nursing

Eligibility Criteria:- To be eligible for admission to the B.Sc. Nursing program in Goa, candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination (10+2) or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects. General category candidates must secure a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, while candidates belonging to SC, ST, and OBC categories are required to obtain at least 40% in these subjects. Additionally, applicants must be at least 17 years old on or before December 31 of the academic year of admission. A valid NEET-UG score is mandatory for admission, and candidates must be medically fit. Admissions are open to Indian nationals, and NRI/OCI/PIO candidates with Indian passports may apply under the NRI category.

Application Procedure: Candidates must fill the common application form included in the prospectus (Annexure III) and submit it to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Porvorim, or other notified locations. A single application form is used for all NEET-based courses, including B.Sc. Nursing. The application must be submitted as per the schedule notified on the DTE website (www.dte.goa.gov.in).

Required Documents: Candidates must submit the following along with the application.

  • HSSC Marksheet
  • Birth Certificate or proof of age
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Residence/Bona fide certificate
  • Income Certificate (for EWS or Fee Waiver categories)

Merit List and Admission Rounds: A provisional merit list will be prepared based on NEET-UG 2024 scores/rank. The merit list will be published on the DTE website. Admission rounds will be conducted at the Admission Centre (DTE, Porvorim) where candidates must appear in person with original documents and requisite fees.

Counseling and Admission Rounds: The counseling for B.Sc. Nursing admissions in Goa is conducted at the Admission Centre, located at the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Porvorim. All candidates must appear in person for the counseling session, carrying their original documents and the prescribed fees. Seat allotment is carried out strictly based on the candidate’s merit rank and category, and only those present at the session are eligible to be considered. Once a seat is offered according to the candidate’s merit position, the admission is confirmed only upon the submission of original documents and payment of fees. Candidates who fail to appear or accept admission during their turn will forfeit their claim for that round. After the seat is allotted, the candidate must report to the respective nursing college within three working days along with the admission letter to complete the reporting process and secure final confirmation.

Post Basic B.Sc Nursing

Eligibility Criteria:- To be eligible for admission to the Post Basic Diploma in Nursing program, a candidate must be a citizen of India and should have successfully completed General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), B.Sc. Nursing, or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing from an institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The applicant must also be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RNRM) with valid registration from a nursing council recognized by the INC. In the case of male nurses who have not undergone midwifery training, an equivalent qualification as recognized by the INC will be accepted. A minimum of one year of clinical experience is required, either after completion of the GNM/B.Sc. Nursing program, or before or after completing the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course. Additionally, the candidate should have resided in the state of Goa for at least 15 years; however, this condition may be relaxed to 10 years for those who have completed their qualifying education or have been employed outside Goa. Medical fitness is essential for undertaking the program. Furthermore, candidates must be life members of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), and proficiency in Konkani or Marathi is considered desirable.

M.Sc Nursing

Eligibility Criteria:- To be eligible for admission to the M.Sc. Nursing program, a candidate must be a citizen of India and should have completed a B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree from a nursing institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. The candidate must be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or possess an equivalent qualification. A minimum of one year of work experience in providing nursing care services in a hospital or community area is required, either after the B.Sc. Nursing program or one year before or after completing the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing program. Candidates who have received their basic qualification from a government institution must have completed the mandatory bond service or paid the bond amount as specified by the Government of Goa. Additionally, the candidate must have resided in Goa for at least fifteen years, be medically fit, and be a life member of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI). While not mandatory, knowledge of Konkani or Marathi is desirable. Furthermore, in-service candidates from state or central government institutions applying for admission must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or study permission from their employer. If an advanced copy of the application is submitted without this permission, it may be considered provisionally. However, the required NOC must be submitted within 15 days of admission.

ANM

Eligibility Criteria:- To be eligible for admission to the Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) program in Goa, the applicant must be a female citizen of India. She must be at least 17 years of age and should not exceed 35 years as of 31st December 2024. The candidate must have completed 12 years of schooling (10+2) from a board recognized by CBSE, ICSE, SSSCE, HSCE, or NIOS, or any equivalent recognized examination body, with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks. For candidates belonging to SC or ST categories, a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate is sufficient. English must have been the medium of instruction during the candidate’s academic studies. Additionally, the applicant should have resided in the State of Goa for a minimum of 10 years immediately preceding the year of qualifying examination and must have studied and passed the 12th standard from a higher secondary school located in Goa.

However, the 10-year residency requirement does not apply to certain categories of students. These include children of Central Government employees, including those in public sector undertakings and defense personnel transferred to Goa, provided they have studied and passed Std. XII in Goa. This exemption also applies if either parent is a Central Government employee in Goa who was transferred out during the latter half of Std. XII. Similarly, children of regular Goa State Government employees, including those in public sector undertakings, who have completed their 12th standard from schools in Goa, are also exempted. Furthermore, students under the Navodaya Vidyalaya exchange program from Goa who spent time studying in other states will have that period counted towards the 10-year requirement. In such cases, a reduced residence period of five years is accepted if either parent or grandparent was born in Goa. All candidates must be in good physical and mental health, and anyone found to be medically unfit will not be allowed to continue the course. While not compulsory, knowledge of Konkani or Marathi is considered desirable for applicants.

GNM

Eligibility Criteria:- To be eligible for admission to the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with English, securing a minimum of 40% marks from a recognized board, including State Open Schools and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Preference is often given to students from the Science stream. The minimum age for admission is 17 years as of 31st December of the admission year, and the upper age limit is 35 years. However, there is no upper age limit for candidates who are registered Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) or Lady Health Visitors (LHV). A relaxation of 5% in minimum marks is provided to SC/ST candidates. Applicants must be medically fit to pursue the course, and knowledge of Konkani or Marathi is considered desirable. The GNM program is a three-year diploma course comprising both theoretical learning and practical training in nursing, midwifery, and community health. Institutions like the Sai Nursing Institute in Sankhali and others in Goa offer this program with seat reservations as per government norms.
