Regional College of Nursing, established in 1977 under the North Eastern Council (NEC) scheme, is a prestigious government nursing institution located at Narakasur Hilltop, Guwahati, Assam. Affiliated with the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) and recognized by the Indian Nursing council (INC) and the Assam Nurses’ Midwives’ and Health Visitors’ Council (ANC), the college offers B.Sc. Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing programs across five specializations: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Nursing, and Community Health Nursing. The campus is equipped with well-maintained hostels for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing hygienic food and a peaceful study environment. The library accommodates approximately 100 students and houses over 10,000 books and several journals, with ongoing efforts towards digitalization. The college features departmental laboratories for hands-on training, sports facilities, and a transport system with five buses facilitating clinical duties at various healthcare centers, including Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Ulubari Urban PHC, Sonapur Rural PHC, and Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute. With a legacy of producing over 1,100 graduates and more than 250 postgraduates, the Regional College of Nursing continues to be a cornerstone in advancing nursing education in Assam and the broader Northeast region.

Directorate of Medical Education (DME) Assam will conduct counseling for Nursing and Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) conducts the entrance exams.

B.Sc Nursing

The Entrance Examination for selection of candidates for admission into B.Sc. Nursing Course in both the Govt. and Private Institutes of Assam for the session 2024. Online Application Forms shall be available on University website www.ssuhs.in. The online application Form must be filled up after carefully going through the instructions given along with the Form.

The requisite entrance examination fee (non-refundable) shall have to be paid by the candidates only in online mode through the payment gateway available in the University website (Fee Collect). The details of categories of fee are available in the University website along with other details of examination. Above Examination fee is exempted for PwD (Divyang) category of candidates having disability of 40% and above.

Entrance Examination Details for B.Sc. Nursing Course

Eligibility Criteria:-

• A candidate should have passed in the subjects of PCB and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 45% marks taken together in PCB at the qualifying examination (10+2).
• The Minimum Age for Admission shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year on which admission is sought.
• Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by the State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government having Science subjects and English only.
• A candidate belonging to SC/ST or Other Backward classes, the marks obtained in PCB taken together in qualifying Examination be 40% instead of 45% as stated above.
• English is a compulsory subject in 10+2 for being eligible for admission to B.Sc. (N)
• Candidate shall be medically fit.
• Candidate shall be admitted once in a year.

Examination Fee Details for B.Sc. Nursing Entrance Exam

M.Sc Nursing Eligibility criteria:

• The Colleges of Nursing in the Government sector of Assam shall admit students into the M. Sc. Nursing course as per the Indian Nursing Council guidelines.
• The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
• The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of :
  • B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
• The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
• Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
• Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
• Candidate shall be medically fit.
• 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.
