Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), located in Ner Chowk, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, plays a pivotal role in advancing nursing education within the state. The university affiliates a substantial number of nursing institutions, including government and private colleges, offering programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc. Nursing). Admissions to these programs are merit-based, determined through entrance examinations conducted by AMRU. Eligibility Criteria: For admission to the B.Sc. Nursing course are as follows: Only female candidates who are bonafide Himachali, or daughters of Himachal Government employees or employees of autonomous bodies partly or fully financed by the HP Government, are eligible for government quota seats. For management quota seats in private B.Sc. Nursing colleges, all Indian citizens, both Himachali and non-Himachali, are eligible. Candidates must be aged between 17 and 35 years as of 31st December 2024, with a 5-year age relaxation for SC/ST candidates. The candidate must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English individually, and secured at least 45% aggregate marks in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC). English must be a compulsory subject in 10+2. Married candidates are eligible with a medical fitness certificate, and must maintain 80% theory and 100% practical attendance to appear in final exams. Candidates awaiting 10+2 results and those from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with science subjects are also eligible. Final selection is based on performance in the entrance test conducted by Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), HP.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING UP ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
COMMON/ CENTRALIZED COUNSELLING
(a) There will be online counselling to provisionally allocate seats to eligible candidates based on merit-cum-choice/preference of colleges and category/quota. Candidates must fill and submit the online application form and then fill their choices of colleges and quota. Merely paying the fee is not enough—candidates must click “Final Submit” to complete the application.
(b) Admission to Government and Private Nursing Colleges (both State & Management Quota) will be done through online allotment as per schedule by the Common Counselling Committee, chaired by the Director of Medical Education & Research, HP. The Controller of Examinations, AMRU, is the Member Secretary.
(c) After the 1st round, candidates can download the provisional allotment letter from their login and must report to the allotted college with original documents and a printout of the application form and allotment letter.
(d) The College Admission Committee verifies eligibility, documents, medical fitness, and fee payment. If a candidate doesn’t report in time, the seat is cancelled without notice.
(e) The 2nd round will be conducted after the first, and candidates will be allowed to submit fresh preferences. If a candidate is satisfied with their seat from the 1st round, they need not participate in the 2nd. If they want upgradation, they must submit fresh choices. Upgradation is allowed from one college to another based on merit and availability.
(f) Candidates not allotted any seat in Round-1 can directly fill choices in Round-2 without registering again.
(g) If reserved category seats remain unfilled, they will be offered to other categories in a specific order (SC to ST, then to General, etc.).
(h) Candidates can also choose colleges not currently showing vacancies, as some may become available due to seat reshuffling.
(i) Himachali Bonafide candidates admitted under Management Quota in Round-1 can be upgraded to State Quota in Round-2.
(j) A Mop-Up Round (and extended Mop-Up, if needed) will be held for candidates who haven’t taken or are not holding any seat. Upgradation is not allowed in the Mop-Up round except from Private to Government colleges or from Management to State Quota.
(k) The entire process is conducted online via www.amruhp.ac.in. Candidates must regularly check the website for updates.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) in Himachal Pradesh require candidates to have passed 10+2 from a recognized board with a minimum of 40% aggregate marks, preferably with Science (PCB), though Arts students with relevant subjects like Sociology and Psychology may also be considered. The age limit is between 17 to 35 years as of 31st December of the admission year, with possible relaxation for ANM-trained candidates. Both male and female candidates are eligible, subject to institute-specific policies, and applicants must be medically fit. Preference is given to Himachal Pradesh domicile holders, and admission may be based either on 10+2 merit or an entrance exam conducted by the concerned authority.
